For those of you who have been following on Tumblr, you now know why I’ve been fairly miserable at posting these last few weeks. I have been wanting to move the site for a couple of reasons:
1. So those of you who keep telling me you don’t want to open a Tumblr account can now have full access to my blog.
2. So that I can start to build a “Services” and “Shop” page which I will continue to work on and will be coming soon! This is crazy exciting stuff.
3. To become more a part of the blog community and less a part of the Tumblr community. No offense Tumblr. You and I just don’t always understand each other.
Thank you to those of you who care enough about what I have to say – and about your health – to show up every day. Especially those of you who have been here from the beginning – I can’t thank you enough for telling me you were reading the blog when I was 100% sure that no one was reading the blog. I would love to hear about what you all think about the new site and what you’d like to see from me. Without you, I’m just talking to myself.
Leave a comment below or even shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Do you want videos? More dessert, slow cooker or grain free recipes? Favorite products? Nutrition myth-busters? I’m listening!
Now, on to the fun stuff. Car snacks. Car snacks are important! Atlanta traffic is notoriously atrocious and I never know when I’m going to get stuck. And even when I don’t get stuck, I like the comfort of knowing I have snacks nearby. I’ve had a lot of hangry moments while sitting in my car in the past, and there is just no reason for that.
Now, I’m not suggesting turning your car into a Kwik Stop. But keeping some healthy snacks around when you’re on the go can do wonders to keep you on track and away from nasty convenience store foods. Or the food court. Or the drive thru.
Criteria for The Nutrition Addiction approved car snacks are no added sugar, no artificial garbage ingredients and something with a fiber, fat and protein to keep you held over.
The Nutrition Addiction Top 5 Car Snacks
1 // Flipping out over this cashew cookie Larabar. And all the flavors, really. Larabars are made with fruit and nuts – that’s it. This is your non-sucky granola bar [minus anything that resembles granola] and has enough fat, carbs, fiber & protein to keep you going for a couple of hours.
2 // You guys know Justin’s by now. It’s only the most delicious nut butter company on the planet. But did you know they make squeeze packets?! What if you had a banana in your lunch bag and a Justin’s squeezable in your glove compartment? Would you need anything else in this world?
3// Have you guys heard of The New Primal Jerky? It’s like $500/pack, but DAMN it’s good and it’s the only jerky that doesn’t seem to have sugar or MSG or gluten. Because jerky really needs all that.
4 // I just need you to trust me on this. I ate a whole bag of Kale Krunch Cheezey Chipotle yesterday in one sitting. Whoopsies.
5 // Plantain Chips! OK, this is not an excellent source of protein. But if you follow me on Instagram, you know plantain chips are my go-to car snack. I can’t stop. They are resistant starches, so they’re good for the gut. And next on my list is making my own chips.
And not coincidentally, all of these products are gluten free. The drowsy affects of gluten are unwanted while driving. Safety first.
Stay tuned for a little contest I’ll be running in the next couple of days! I’m pretty excited about it and you should be too because there are food prizes involved. Thanks for stopping by, and don’t forget to comment, email, tweet or IG me with what you want to see more of!
